KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A roadside bomb attack Tuesday in eastern Afghanistan killed two U.S. soldiers and wounded another American soldier and an Afghan interpreter, the U.S. military said.
The attack happened in Nangahar province, east of Kabul, U.S. Navy Lt. Tamara Lawrence said.
The soldiers were on patrol in a Humvee when the attack occurred, Reuters news service reported.
"Their vehicle was completely destroyed, I can still see smoke rising from the wreck," Qari Ismatullah, a resident of Khogyani, told Reuters.
Earlier, in Khost, another eastern province, a Taliban suicide car bomber blew himself to pieces in an attack on a coalition convoy, wounding three U.S. soldiers, Reuters reported.
Since the start of Operation Enduring Freedom, there have been 295 U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan, half of them from hostile fire.
