Frontwoman Alice Glass has announced the split of the electro duo Crystal Castles on Twitter, saying that she will pursue a career as a solo artist.
The singer hinted at a breakdown in the relationship between her and the band's producer Ethan Kath. While not naming him, Glass declared that "sincerity, honesty and empathy for others is no longer possible in Crystal Castles".
I am leaving Crystal Castles.

My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others.

For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within CC.

Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.

Formed in 2004, the duo rapidly established themselves as the pioneers of an indie/dance crossover, equally as notorious for their unpredictable live shows as their Gameboy-influenced productions and Glass' cold vocal delivery. One famous incident took place at Glastonbury when Glass climbed the stage rigging during the band's performance, leading to organisers cancelling their set mid-show. They released three studio albums, the last of which was III, released in 2012.
