Billboards
"The Twilight Zone"
is unquestionably one of the greatest science fiction
television shows of all time. Generally speaking, most
episodes had strong elements of deeply imagined science,
suspense and thought-provoking intrigue.
Creator Serling had a unique and distinctive approach to the
central themes of the show(s)... and it was a hit, right
from its onset. A virtual spring board for many young and
talented actors/actresses the original Twilight Zone
has run successfully in syndication ever since. Most
everyone has a favorite episode. For me The Twilight Zone
original series represents pioneering television with a
strong nostalgic and noirish-ly dark feel to it.

NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
The 18 Episodes are now double the length at about 52-minutes each (unsyndicated) and take up about 10 Gig in size - with 4 episodes per dual-layered disc. With this longer-episode format bitrates are higher than the previous 3 seasons ranging around 20 Mbps. There is not much noise and look very impressive. Unlike Season Two I didn't see any that were taped on video. All episodes are consistent with strong grayscale. This is probably in advance of Seasons one and Two Blu-ray editions and probably as good as Season Three in the new format. The transfers occasionally show some nice grain and there is no chroma evident. There are 5 dual-layered disc in the set with the last having only 2 episodes and more supplements.

Frankly, I've
only sampled some of the new commentaries - but enjoyed the

BOTTOM LINE:
Gary Tooze
May 7th, 2011
Audio :
Audio
is offered in a linear PCM (lossless) available and
while some of the DVD transfers sounded tinny - this is clear and quite consistent
showing some perceived depth but no range.
Like the previous -
the subtitle font used is larger and higher up on the screen (see sample
above) than usual
but I do appreciate them being positioned under the speaker (like
Universal does). Isolated scores are available and sound solid. They
are English SDH only.
My
Momitsu
has identified the package as containing all region
'A'-locked discs -
as we expected.
Extras :
Truly there are only maybe 2 or 3 'mediocre' episodes here... the
rest are excellent. On Thursday We Leave for Home,
Passage on the Lady Anne, Of Late I Think of Cliffordville,
The New Exhibit, The Parallel, No Time Like the Past,
Printer's Devil, Miniature, Jess-Belle, Death Ship, He's
Alive, Valley of the Shadow, The Thirty-Fathom Grave and
In His Image,
- are all way above-average television. It's
nice to see so many familiar faces in the casts.
These sets continue to hold a lot of value. The
Blu-ray package has a very high recommendation. Those who own the previous
sets know what they are in for - hours and hours of some of
the best TV of all time. Step away from 'Reality' shows and
sink back into the elaborate world of human imagination -
with all pistons firing! The fourth season is impressive and
we very strongly recommended!
