Amarillos Parish (Loja, Ecuador)

The parish of Amarillos (2,167 ha) is located in the north of Loja province, 15 km of Chaguarpamba and 130 km of Loja.

Amarillos was established in 1930 by a group of colonists led by Domingo Armijos, Virginia Paladines, Jos� Criollo and Ignacio Largo. Originally named Colina de Bol�var (Bol�var's Hill), the village was renamed to Amarillos for the great number of yellow ip� (Spanish, "amarillo", lit. "yellow) growing in the area.
The parish of Amarillos was established on 30 April 1992.

The flag of Amarillos was established as a due tribute of identity, valor and respect to the population, which is synthesized in this symbol, synonym of honor, loyalty and development of a great, enterprising village.
The panel is divided into two stripes, the upper, gold, as a symbol of resources and guard, and the lower, green, symbolizing the fields, ecology and hope. The coat of arms of Amarillos is placed in the center of the flag.

The coat of arms, designed by Maura R�os, is surmounted by a silver star representing protection. In chief are placed eight stars representing the boroughs forming the parish. The upper part of the shield features clouds over green fields crossed sinister by Bol�var waving his sword as a symbol of honor and protection. The chapel hosting the cross of Calvary and welcoming the Cisne Virgin during her pilgrimage, is featured in the center. Dexter stands an "amarillo" tree symbolizing vegetation flowered or. In the center of the shield is placed a cornucopia. In base a pickax and a spade represent work and progress.The scroll is inscribed with the parish's name and year of foundation. The shield is surrounded by two parish flags, yellow symbolizing light and green hope, honor and loyalty.
