According to Business Wire, Sony announced today an exclusive multi-title publishing agreement with Square, best known for their Final Fantasy series of RPG games. The agreement will grant Sony full North American publishing and distribution rights to Square's PlayStation product line, including FFVII, Final Fantasy Tactics, a strategy game, and Bushido Blade, a weapons-based fighting game.

This follows Square's earlier announcement that they would release Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation, and not the Nintendo 64, as was previously expected. Square had released all six of the series up to that point on the Nintendo and Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems, but decided to change to PlayStationm, primarily because of data-storage reasons. The size of the game they wanted to produce could not be contained on one small cartridge. Final Fantasy VII will reportedly be on 3 CDs.
