The Vermont State House

 

HE VERMONT GENERAL ASSEMBLY and the Friends of the Vermont State House welcome your visit and invite you to view one of the nation’s oldest and best preserved state capitols. As you tour our halls and chambers, we hope you will develop a sense of what makes this historic building, and the state for which it was built, unique.

After 140 years, the Vermont State House still commands the landscape of Montpelier, the smallest capital city in America. The House and Senate chambers are the oldest legislative chambers in their original condition anywhere in the country.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Open year-round except state holidays.

Guided Tours available on the half-hour, free of charge, July through mid-October: Monday-Friday, 10:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Saturdays, 11:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.During the summer and fall tourist season, group tours must be scheduled in advance by calling (802) 828-2228. From mid-October through the end of June. guided tours are available Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm. GROUPS MUST BE SCHEDULED IN ADVANCE by using the Field Trip webpage or calling the Field Trip Coordinator at (802) 828-1411.

Under the Dome Gifts open June through mid-October. Hours correspond with tours. Sponsored by the Friends of the Vermont State House to benefit ongoing restoration and interpretation of the State House for the visiting public.
