Sharon Stone is an actress and former model. She was Miss Crawford County for 1975, and the queen of her high school's spring festival. She reportedly worked at a local McDonald's before being hired as a model at age 19. By her early 20s she was a high-paid cover girl, and she made her film debut in 1980 as a blonde in the distance in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories. Stone's first famous role came ten years later, in Total Recall, as Arnold Schwarzenegger's double agent wife. In 1992, a fleeting glimpse of her vulva in Basic Instinct made her a recognizable Hollywood name.
Joe Eszterhas, who wrote the screenplay for Basic Instinct, has written that Stone said "thank you" for the script by sleeping with him. Stone, Eszterhas says, was so despised by co-workers that on one of her films, crew members took turns urinating in her bathtub.
In 2001, Stone suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage -- bleeding between the brain and the middle membrane covering the brain. She spent two weeks in the hospital before being pronounced "completely intact neurologically" and released. Also in 2001, then-husband and San Francisco Chronicle publisher Phil Bronstein was bitten by a five-foot Komodo dragon while they took a private tour of the Los Angeles Zoo. In 2002, Stone publicly sported a black eye after being punched in the face by her 18-month-old adopted son.
Responding to persistent allegations of bimbotude early in her career, Stone told reporters that she was in fact a member of MENSA, with an IQ of 148. She stuck with that story for several years, until MENSA's national marketing director loudly pointed out that she was not a member, and never had been.
