JAMMING BY THE FREE WORLD |

I quote below from Hermann Jaeger's article (NZZ, June 22, 1974): "The only long jamming war in the West was during the Cyprus crisis in the late 50's, when Athens jammed London's broadcasts to Cyprus and London jammed Athens's broadcasts to Cyprus. Another application of jamming by the Free World occurred during the Rhodesia crisis of 1965-1966. Rhodesia jammed BBC London broadcasts coming from the BBC relay station which has recently been set up in Francistown (then in Bechuanaland, today's Botswna) to transmit to Rhodesia. The BBC revenged itself by placing one of its medium wave broadcasts on Rhodesia's Radio Bulawayo. (...) Egypt, for example, jams Israel [1974], and on the Iran-Iraq border jamming is used because of the Kurdish question. Iran itself has for years been jamming underground anti-Shah broadcasts which actually originate in the GDR, Czechoslovakia and other Eastern Block countries. In Europe at the moment Athens is jamming Deutsche Welle's Greek program."
