Biography
Giorgio Chiavacci was in good form at the Amsterdam Olympics, winning 22 of his 24 bouts in the team foil competition. It helped Italy win the gold medal, but during one of his two losses, he injured his knee and was unable to compete individually. His opponent in that bout, Lucien Gaudin went on to win individual title. Chiavacci, winner of European titles in 1926 (individual) and 1931 (team) was again unlucky four years later. Set to compete in Los Angeles, an eye infection prevented him from fencing.
