Olympedia – Guinea Bissau (GBS)

The National Olympic Committee of Guinea-Bissau was formed on 12 April 1995, and was given official recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in June 1995, at the 104th IOC session in Budapest. The nation made its Olympic début at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and has since never missed an edition of the Summer Olympics. Guinea-Bissau has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games, nor won any Olympic medal. Through 2022, Guinea-Bissau has had 18 Olympians, with ten track & field athletes (six men, four women), two female judokas, and six wrestlers (four men, two women).

The best performance by a Bissau-Guinean Olympian occurred in 2012 when Augusto Midana finished seventh of 19 competitors in the men’s middleweight freestyle wrestling after winning one bout. He is followed by female judoka Taciana Lima, who finished =9th of 23 athletes, in the 2012 extra-lightweight class.
