Olympedia – Eswatini (SWZ)

Eswatini, sometimes written as eSwatini, became independent of the British Commonwealth in 1968, and was known as Swaziland until 2018, when it changed to its current name. Eswatini débuted at the 1972 Olympic Games (as Swaziland), but did not attend the next two Games due to boycotts. Since 1984, it has been present at all editions of the Olympic Games.

The top result by an Emeswati Olympian came in 2000, when boxer Musa Simelane reached the second round of the featherweight division, finishing in a tie for ninth. One other top result for Eswatini came at Tokyo 2020, when Sibusiso Matsenjwa ran in the semi-finals of the men’s 200 metres, setting a national record.

Eswatini has competed one time at the Olympic Winter Games, that occurring in 1992, with one male Alpine skier. Keith Fraser competed in slalom, giant slalom, and super-G, with his best finish occurring in the giant slalom, where he was 63rd.
