Soviet women were pretty good in this event. They finished 1-6, with the medals won by Yekaterina Kalinchuk, Mariya Horokovska, and Galina Minaicheva, in that order. The top non-Soviets were Sweden’s Karin Lindberg and Poland’s Helena Rakoczy, the 1950 World Champion, who tied for seventh.
