Jay Reidsma defeated
Dawn Webb, 494 to 404 for Tuscarora Township Clerk. Henry Ginop and Greg Bunker high vote winners in Road Commission race. All county millage proposals pass.

Sturgeon survey work
on Burt Lake
DNR and Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians are conducting sturgeon research on Burt Lake, to determine the sturgeon population and see what effect recent stocking efforts are having on the population.

Ground broken for
new VA clinic
Ground has been broken and Indian River will soon be home to a new VA clinic. An official groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, June 30 at the site of the new clinic on the south side of M-68 just past Brudy Road.

Habitat for Humanity
working to provide affordable housing
Affordable housing is hard to find and in high demand these days. Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity is currently rehabbing a two-bedroom house on Garfield Street that will be ready for occupation this coming fall.

Inland Lakes hires
new superintendent
Elizabeth Fairbanks has been hired as the new Inland Lakes Schools Superintendent. Fairbanks is currently the high school principal an Title 1 director.

Five-day forest fire
burns over 2,500 acres
The Blue Lakes fire covered an area of northern Montmorency County, south of Tower, and southwest of Onaway. DNR, US Forest Service firefighters and six local fire departments fought the fire from Friday, May 13 until Tuesday, May 17.

School tax proposals
May 3 vote
By a vote of 731 no to 511 yes, Inland Lakes school district voters rejected a $29.5 million, 30-year bond proposal. By a vote of 243 yes to 219 no, Wolverine school district voters approved a $7.3 million, 30-year bond proposal.

Wild mustang has
new home in Michigan
Getting the trust of a wild mustang is something that Marci Vieau of Indian River is finding requires lots of patience. She has been working with 'Cincinnati,' a mustang adopted from a wild herd in Oregon. Story in April 14 Resorter.

Old Onaway Road Bridge
due to be replaced
The Old Onaway Road bridge over the Little Sturgeon River has deteriorated to the point where there is a 15-ton weight limit. Timetable for construction will be known after permits are secured. Story in April 7 Resorter.

Gerhardt's race ends
It wasn't the finish he planned on, but after racing more than 900 miles, a blinding snowstorm and an injured ankle ended Gerhardt Thiart's first Iditarod race. Story in March 24 Resorter.

Softball, baseball teams
end great seasons
Inland Lakes softball team ended the season with their first District championship since 2018.
Inland Lakes varsity baseball team finished the season with their first Ski Valley Conference championship in 20 years and also won the District championship.

Wolverine students
preserve history
WCS journalism students are working to inventory and restore a historic collection of senior class portraits dating back to 1936. Teacher Steve Evoy says the project engages students in a variety of learning opportunities.

sister sign with NCMC
Max and Maggie Nelson of Wolverine signed letters of intent to play for the newly formed NCMC basketball and volleyball teams. Story in May 5 Resorter.

Bulldog softball team
sweeps Petoskey
Tuesday, May 3, IL girls sent Petoskey home with two losses: 5-3 and 10-5. They now have a 12-2-1 season record and are 3-1 in Ski Valley Conference play. Story in Resorter issue May 5.

Bulldog baseball team
8-0 in conference
The Bulldog varsity baseball team swept Gaylord St. Mary's on April 28, took two games in a Saturday tournament at home, then pounded Bellaire on May 2. The team is getting great pitching, solid hitting, and improved fielding.

ILS Senior signs
for Bay College
Inland Lakes senior baseball player Dylan Wymer has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next year for Bay College in Escanaba
