Critics Consensus

Brisk, funny, and sweetly raunchy, For a Good Time, Call... adds to the recent string of R-rated female comedies while serving as an overdue coming out party for the charming Ari Graynor.

Kimber Myers The Playlist It's a comedy that isn't always funny as it struggles to find the right tone between raunchy and sweet. It celebrates female friendship in a way few movies do, but good intentions don't always make for a good film. Audience Member For a good time don’t watch this movie bingos Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Lou M Such a feel good easy movie, perfect girlie flick. It’s left me with a smile on my face. Loved it!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Audience Member I'm really surprised by all the hate towards this movie. I thought it was a funny good weird time at the movies. Is it crass at times, yes but it makes for an entertaining edgy comedy. The chemistry between the main two actors are amazing. It feels like they're real friends. One thing I didn't like was the guy who wanted to date in real life and wasn't a creep because I'm assuming most people who do phone you know are creeps and weirdos. Of course I may be stereotyping and I apologize if this is offensive but who else would be making these phone calls. In the end I had a good time, it's a simple movie but with normal friend dumb arguments that happen in real life. Good movie, I recommend it but definitely not a date night movie, I don't know what the demographic is. Oct 28 22 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I am so upset by this movie's Rotten Tomatoes' score. This movie is fantastic. This is coming from a person who like art house films (which admittedly this movie is not). What the movie is though is exactly what it wants to be: the perfect "hoe-mance" as my friend called it. It is about two women becoming friends while operating a phone sex line and I loved every single millisecond of their friendship. The two leads have incredible chemistry together. In fact, there are only two things I would say are issues with the film. 1. The one instance of conflict is completely manufactured and feels so forced. Thankfully it almost seems like the movie understands that and glides past it. 2. The movie isn't a show. I could see these two women playing off of each other for longer than I feel comfortable saying. Another cool thing about the movie, its really progressive. The main characters are sex workers and neither they nor the men/women paying for the sex work are judged. While the directing is mostly pretty boiler plate, I would say that this is where the directing does shine. The director is never casting positive or negative reflections on any of these people for any of the weird stuff they're into and the film even makes you invest in one of the callers. Oh yeah its also incredibly funny. Watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member If the romance genre is a high point of major motion pictures, and if gratuitous smutty cheeseball horndog romps are the low point... this is smack dab in the middle. Actually, the end was really dumb so it falls below the median. Whole thing was too cute. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member This was actually really solid 3.7 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/04/21 Full Review Read all reviews
