Critics Consensus

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone adapts its source material faithfully while condensing the novel's overstuffed narrative into an involving -- and often downright exciting -- big-screen magical caper.

Kevin Maher Times (UK) An exceptional big-screen half-term treat. Rated: 4/5 Oct 29, 2021 Full Review Jami Bernard New York Daily News Harry Potter's first venture onto the screen is a solid blockbuster. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 13, 2015 Full Review Anthony Lane The New Yorker Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is, despite its trickery, that plainest and least surprising of artifacts: the work of art that is exactly the sum of its parts, neither more nor less. Nov 27, 2013 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn The acting is not great, the story's cookie-cutter, but some of the graphics still held up and there are interesting aspects of the wizard world. I think I may have missed the boat on this by watching this as a grown man, but I get why people like this. Rated: 2/5 Nov 13, 2024 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This is a solid foundation for the film series but the pacing and acting make this a slog to get through. Rated: 2/5 Nov 13, 2024 Full Review Martin Carr CBR Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone remains a memorable debut for one of the biggest fantasy franchises of all time. Not only does it hold after over 20 years, but this movie is still a benchmark for world building by any standard. Rated: 8/10 Jun 25, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Ginger This was a super cool experience but I feel that it could have included more 4D movements and weather effects Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Darrin R So cool to see these movies in the theater again.. 4DX really takes the experience to a new level. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Drea Seeing HP1 in 4DX was amazing. Plus with the 3D aspect, everything became even more real. I felt as though I was seeing into the Castle rather than it just being a great background. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Nolan The movement of the chairs was amazing!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Jenny I loved the movie. It was so cool and it felt like I was part of it. The only thing I truly wish it had the option to choose the hour. They only have one slot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Robert Took my daughter to see her first Harry Potter movie in theatre. She loved it. So much better than watching at home.
