If you're into old-school scares over cheap gore, you'll be able to get over Mama's confusing script and contrived plot devices.
S K I’m fairly critical of lazy, trope-based thriller/horror movies (and there are many), but I thought this one was quite good overall. Unique premise, some genuinely creepy scenes, decent SFX…and Jessica Chastian. Not sure why many of the user reviews are so dour. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Audience Member This film very effectively scared me throughout, until reaching the point where the titular creature is revealed clearly. It's not a particularly exceptional film but I thought it was scary, which is what horror films are supposed to be. Very atmospheric movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Nguyen N What is the message of the movie? So meaningless. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Nicholas V I don’t have to say a lot about this Thriller/Horror Movie except it isn’t scary. Maybe It’s just me but I couldn’t find a real reason to watch this till the end…..but I did because of the Actors who tried their best I think. Technically and Story-wise I can assure you that you don’t miss out anything. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/21/24 Full Review Dan C Mama is a decent watch with some really creepy moments. I was dubious about the cast beforehand however they put in a great performance the children included. The story is strong enough however The actual entity mama once seen breaks emersion for me and it was unrecoverable from that moment on. The suspense and mystery had completely been taken out for me personally. Overall: a good horror flick you will enjoy it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
