Critics Consensus

While it's still hard to argue with its impeccable cast or the fun they often seem to be having, Red 2 replaces much of the goofy fun of its predecessor with empty, over-the-top bombast.

Kimber Myers The Playlist While we applaud the minds behind Red 2 for making a film for adults in a sea of movies for kids and teenage boys, they didn't actually make a good film for adults. Rated: C+ Aug 13, 2013 Full Review Guy Lodge London Evening Standard The Expendables meets The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel isn't an obviously winning formula. Rated: 2/5 Aug 12, 2013 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times The trick to RED 2's success is its willingness to allow the actors to roar through all their greatest hits at the loudest possible volume. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2013 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine With more action and, fortunately, without so many twists. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Apr 11, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The overly fun-loving tone of Red 2 prevents us from feeling truly involved. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 1, 2022 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews RED 2 slowly-but-surely begins to fizzle out as it enters its padded-out and hopelessly convoluted midsection... Anderson O Some of the suprise new additions add intrigue to Red 2. The magical and surprisingly unique twist adds a clever take, more action, sillier car chases and intense grudges. Redd 2 also ages well with no pun intended. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/25 Full Review alan g Pale imitation of the first. New additions do not help. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Alexander G Exceptional cast putting on a great show. It's a light spirited spy movie in the same way that earlier James Bond movies were. The idea of going back to a Cold War bomb created by a brilliant scientist (Anthony Hopkins) who is hell bent on starting a nuclear war by exploding it inside the Kremlin is a bit far fetched, but it's not the point of this film. It's action sequence after action sequence. Fantastic car chase scenes. Excellent martial arts scenes. There is not a single scene that doesn't have high production values. Femme Fatale Catherine Zeta Jones plays her role deliciously. Bruce Willis sells this like nobody else can. All the supporting cast is simply BRILLIANT as this well executed comedy is played with a straight face. You will not be disappointed. The actors are having too much fun for you not to enjoy watching these veteran actors putting on a great show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review Ally B The first one was good. This one was rushed and honestly cringy. Lots of running around with a ton of bad guy swap? The ending was eh? Not a fan Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Eight T It's rare to find good sequel's, but they nailed it with this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Pete M Stumbled across this after watching Red and being surprised with the depth of the cast. I really enjoyed the plot with a few twists and turns along with some predictable changes as well. Highlight for me is Helen Mirren in this role. So refreshing to see an older actress in an action role. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
