Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com The first feature from [Fleur Fortuné] has a ton of style, and signals from the beginning her confident use of framing, texture and color. Rated: 3/4 Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Prioritizing aesthetics over narrative, the film offers only superficial hints of a society riven by class and authoritarian politics. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic The performances are first-rate, particularly those of Vikander and Olsen, waging a war of wills — the tension is palpable. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson As "The Assessment" transpires, the intentional absurdity becomes unintentionally funny for all the wrong reasons. Rated: 2/5 Mar 22, 2025 Full Review DarkSkyLady DarkSkyLady Reviews With a bleak, dystopian world and a couple longing for a child at its core, there’s desperation at the outset, plus a tragedy waiting as it progresses. The Assessment crafts a searing, odd, and engrossing movie about life, living, and control. Mar 22, 2025 Full Review John Urbancich JMuvies Certainly, a somewhat solid ending helps but really provides too little, too late to change the final assessment here Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 22, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Alejandro F “Unique—cinematography here is pure art. The film transports you to another world with creative flair. Elizabeth shines in her raw portrayal of the struggle for humanness, while Alicia captivates with unexpected, toe-tapping performances. The choreography is both delicate and beautiful, especially evident in Alicia’s ballet-inspired stunts. Overall, the film offers a distinctive exploration of the journey into parenthood and the challenges that come with it.” Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Laura L Very, very well acted and produced. Heavy story, but very engaging & thought-provoking. Husband and I saw it last night and were not disappointed with the quality of the story and level of acting. Very well done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review aq Elizabeth Olsen and Alicia Vikander deliver phenomenal performances. This was a great dystopian sci-fi thriller, and had me constantly guessing what was coming next. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Dedric To some extent I like the idea of having to qualify to procreate, as long as it isnt based on wealth but on humility, empathy, vulnerability, kindness, and compassion. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Roman Wow, that made me deeply uncomfortable in a fun way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Roy J At one point, Olsen's character asks another character if they know what they even are doing anymore. I asked the same question to the director. Starts off with an interesting premise and explores this futuristic society in a compelling dinner scene. But, rest of the movie is unfocused and hollow. Good acting, but very poor script. Synopsis THE ASSESSMENT follows Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel), a successful couple who hope to become parents in a near future where resources are extremely limited and the government keeps firm control over reproduction. They are assigned an assessor named Virginia (Alicia Vikander), who moves into their home for seven days to evaluate whether they deserve to move forward in their parenting journey. What Mia and Aaryan are hoping is a routine test quickly unravels into a psychological nightmare, forcing them to question the very foundations of their society and what it truly means to be human.
