Bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering from the University of Kansas, 1955; test pilot; X-15-pilot; performed three X-15 flights with an altitude of more than 80 kilometers (29.06.1965, 10.08.1965 and 14.10.1965) and earned his astronaut wings; 1963 selected Military Astronaut - Class 3; Colonel, USAF, Ret.; in 1977 he was Commander of the second and fourth test flight with the Space Shuttle Enterprise (ALT); hobbies: Flying, big game hunting, backpacking, athletics; he served as general major of the Kansas Air National Gard (now retired); was engineering consultant and simulation evaluation pilot for Space Shuttle modifications.
