Carly first met Spike and Bumblebee at the Robots Video Arcade, though she was more interested in the Autobot than Spike, much to his disgust. Sometime later, she encountered Ironhide, who was standing guard during the test of Wheeljack's Immobilizer. She blamed herself for the device's capture by the Decepticons, and after Ironhide took her on a tour of Autobot Headquarters, she went on a solo mission to retrieve it and was promptly captured. After Ironhide, Bumblebee and Spike rescued her, she was able to put her MIT studies to use and reverse the Immobilizer's operation, ensuring an Autobot victory. Back at base, she accepted Spike's offer of a date. The Immobilizer
After a stop at a fun park, Carly, Spike and Bumblebee picked up Sparkplug at an airport, only to discover the Decepticons were using the location as a secret base. The Dinobots were called in, but became critically injured during the battle. The three humans returned to headquarters, where the Dinobots decided to desert the Autobot cause. When the Autobots themselves later became crippled by the levels of Cybertonium deteriorating in their systems, Carly realised that the Dinobots would still be functioning, and the trio of humans were able to persuade the Dinobots to help by intercepting a Decepticon shipment of the mineral. Unfortunately Grimlock instead led his troops to Cybertron, and Carly and Spike were forced to follow them there. Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1
Carly's technical know-how once again proved useful as she, Spike and the Dinobots outwitted Shockwave. She also undid some Decepticon cross-circuiting of the Dinobots, and helped the Dinobots and Spike steal some Cybertonium. She was very impressed with Cybertron's design and layout, and even watched a cybertronic history disc from a neglected machine. Unfortunately, the trip had several drawbacks; among them, Shockwave disintegrated her car (Decepticreep!), and she twisted her ankle. However, after the Cybertonium mission was completed, some good came of it all — Optimus Prime gave both Carly and Spike the title of honorary Autobots. Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2
The pair took Blaster along with them to a rock concert, however Blaster's transmission of the concert to the other Autobots caused them to miss a distress signal, resulting in the theft of the Voltronic Galaxer. Carly and Spike started searching the globe in Powerglide, however Megatron used the missing device to jam Earth's radio signals. Carly used her technical knowhow to track the signal to the Moon, and she and Spike accompanied Powerglide and Optimus there in Omega Supreme, though the two humans couldn't do much more than be a cheering squad. Blaster Blues
Out driving in Hoist, Spike and Carly stumbled on a film shoot. After Hoist rescued some stuntmen, he was invited to be part of the movie, while Spike and Carly got free passes to the studio. The duo went to watch the filming, and were dismayed as the other Autobots also attempted to get in on the act, but their time was soon occupied in preventing the Decepticons from getting their hands on a film reel. They were chased through the backlot by Megatron, until a cunning ruse by Hoist involving dropping the pair into a vat of "lava" fooled the Decepticons into thinking the film reel had been destroyed. By the year 2006, she and Spike, who had become Earth's ambassador to Cybertron, had married and had a son, Daniel. The family attended the first Galactic Olympics together, from which Spike was abducted by the Quintessons, along with Ultra Magnus and Kup. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1
The Witwickys attended a diplomatic event on Cybertron, during which Daniel wandered off with Grimlock. It was a while before Carly noticed her son was missing, and insisted on joining in the search. The Autobots followed the trail to a secret Quintesson room with portals leading to prison dimensions. Carly and the Autobots traveled to Menonia in search of Daniel and Grimlock. Carly was able to find a piece of Daniel's tuxedo and, with the aid of Steeljaw and Ramhorn, tracked down the boy himself. After defeating the Quintesson who'd been exiled to Menonia, the Autobots and the two humans returned to Cybertron. Madman's Paradise

Scramble City

Carly helped the Autobots work on the project, and was seen twiddling knobs and consulting some paperwork. Scramble City: Mobilization
Story of Binaltech
In the 2008 of the offshoot BT World, Carly continued working with the Autobots as they used Binaltech technology. When Grimlock threatened to go wild due to lingering Unleasher effects, Carly accompanied him to the Earth Defense Command Space Center where they had a functional cure. However, the Psychedevice was also sought after by Blackarachnia, who confronted Carly after finding out that the machine was sized for humans to use, not for Transformers. Grimlock and Blackarachnia fought, forcing Carly to use the Psychedevice on herself, evolving into a higher, telepathic being that was able to cure both former beasts of their psychic scarring. She and Daniel traveled to Earth with Spike when her husband decided to try and negotiate with the Decepticons. The pair were held hostage during the negotiations. When Galvatron insisted on Daniel remaining on Earth while Spike worked on Athenia, Carly volunteered to stay on Earth to look after the boy. Generations Selects Special Comic
By 2050, Carly and the Witwickys were living at Neo Scramble City, overseeing Earth's production of a new race of robots called Selectors. These robots were empowered through the use of Angolmois Energy, but that energy was becoming disturbed. The Autobots located a time gate opening on Dinobot Island, and believed it to be responsible for the Angolmois disturbance. Carly eagerly made contact with her old friends the Dinobots, and warned them the time gate would arrive. While the Dinobots dealt with the arriving Quintessons and Predacons, though, the Selectors began a revolution against humanity, and Carly was severely injured in the early uprising. Energon Universe
An artist who airbrushed her own van, Carly hoped to save up enough money to go to art college, and her father Davey helped in working hard to save up the money to send her. She also tried to encourage her boyfriend Spike's dream of becoming an astronaut, despite his older brother's tragic death and his father's discouragement. One night, she picked Spike up so they could look at the full moon up on Hanger's Rock, but an earthquake threw them down into the newly revealed alien ship. They saw an alien robot arrive and begin reactivating the others, only for the first reactivated to start attacking others. Carly tried to make a run for it with Spike, only to get caught between the aggressive aliens and a good alien. During the fight, she helped Spike push the alien's blaster to him, allowing them to all escape in the cab of the alien, named Optimus Prime, and an ambulance robot, during which Carly introduced herself. Transformers #1
The next day, a touch more comfortable around the giant robots from space, Carly berated the newly revived Cliffjumper for his fear of all the organic life on Earth compared to her experience learning about, well, giant robots from space. She then convinced him to accept a handshake (or a fingershake, in his case). While Ratchet explained how the Autobot's lack of energy prevented him from reviving more Autobots, Carly spray painted Optimus' face onto her van, commenting that Energon for Autobots must be like food for humans.
Once the group learned of the Decepticons' attack on the nearby power plant, Carly attempted to dissuade Spike from going there with Optimus, to no avail. So, she decided to drive home to find her parents. Along the way, Laserbeak detected the Optimus painting on her van and began following her.
Upon returning home, Carly was pulled into her home by Spike's now heavily armed father, who informed her that her father, Davey, had been killed. Transformers #2 Asking Sparky for details, she learned that it was Starscream who had killed him, which prompted Sparky to ask her what she knew about the Transformers – in particular where Spike was. Before she could properly explain however, Laserbeak burst into the house. Thankfully, Cliffjumper, having followed Carly home, also leapt into the house and took the cassette down. But Sparky, not knowing – or caring – about the distinction between Autobot and Decepticon, shot Cliffjumper with a shotgun and dragged Carly out of the house.
Sparky then took Carly to the local VFW bar, where an armed militia was forming to try and defend the town. Carly tried to explain to Sparky that one side of the robots was fighting for good, but Sparky remarked that principles and ideology don't matter – when folks start shooting, people die. It was then that Cliffjumper poked his head into the bar, trying to introduce himself under better circumstances, but Sparky wouldn't hear it, and shot Cliffjumper again. Just as Carly tried to intervene on Cliffjumper's behalf, Skywarp barged in and attacked both Cliffjumper and the militia. Carly then placed herself between the fallen Cliffjumper and the approaching Skywarp. The amused Decepticon jet was about to shoot them both when Optimus Prime arrived on the scene and rammed Skywarp aside. Transformers #3
After the battle ended, Carly and Cliffjumper followed Optimus as he rushed Sparky and Spike to the local hospital, but the Autobot leader came under fire from Starscream. Cliffjumper asked Carly if she wanted to take her last chance to bail out, but Carly instead clicked her seatbelt and told Cliffjumper to take Starscream down. They did so by sweeping the Decepticon's feet out from under him, allowing Optimus to run the Decepticon over. Carly rushed inside the hospital with Sparky, Spike, and the doctors while the Autobots and Decepticons battled outside, smiling when the Decepticons finally retreated. Later, Carly sat with Cliffjumper as she attempted to process the death of her father. Cliffjumper related her loss to Starscream with his own, and she asked him if the pain ever got easier. Before he could give an answer, their conversation was interrupted by Optimus Prime, armed and ready to go on the offensive. Transformers #4
The Autobots' plan now was to connect a scratchbuilt turbine to Farmingham Dam and use the energy it collected to revive more Autobots. Carly and Cliffjumper assisted from the top of the dam. They had just managed to revive Arcee, when the Decepticons attacked. Carly stepped out and fired on an advancing Thundercracker with a handgun. Not only was it ineffective, but Thundercracker's strafing caused the part of the dam Carly was standing on to collapse, and she fell down the side of the dam. Luckily, Arcee was able to use her alternate mode to catch Carly as she fell. In the end, another Autobot was revived, but the turbine was damaged in the battle.
Optimus decided to launch a counteroffensive to retake the Ark. Carly, determined to avenge her father and boyfriend, wanted to come along, but Optimus and Sparky, wanting to avoid a repeat of Spike, told her no. As the Autobots pulled out without Carly, Cliffjumper, agreeing that Carly had a right to be there when they finished off the Decepticons, surreptitiously yanked her inside his vehicle mode and smuggled her along. Transformers #5 While the rest of the Autobots were preoccupied dealing with Devastator, Carly talked Cliffjumper into sneaking into the Ark to find weaponry to use against the Decepticons.
They made it into the ship, but were caught by Starscream. While Cliffjumper grappled with the Decepticon Air Commander, Carly moved a blaster into position and fired, knocking Starscream over. Cliffjumper took aim at the Seeker, preparing to avenge his clan, but to Carly's shock, he couldn't bring himself to do it. His hesitation gave Starscream an opening to grab Carly and try to crush her. But at that moment, a falling Devastator slammed into Starscream, causing him to drop Carly, who was caught by Cliffjumper. Transformers #6
Disappointed with Cliffjumper's refusal to kill Starscream, Carly wouldn't speak to him for some time afterward, during which time she started training herself to use a rifle. During one of these training sessions, Arcee approached her and tried to join in. When Arcee mentioned she wished she wasn't so good at shooting, a still-vengeful Carly was confused. Arcee then related her own story of how her quest for vengeance led to the death of her mentor. Carly however, was not persuaded. Transformers #7 Carly then accompanied Arcee and a wheelchair-bound Spike to a beach to relax for a bit. Cliffjumper then appeared, bringing drinks, but Carly still hadn't forgiven him for sparing Starscream, pointing out that he had killed not just her father, but also Bumblebee, and wasn't sure she could trust him anymore.
Upon returning to the Ark, on hearing how Teletraan One was effectively useless with Skywarp integrated with it, Carly levelled an RPG launcher at him, offering to deal with him once and for all. Prime tried reasoning with Carly, pointing out how Skywarp would still be needed to revive the other Autobots. Carly hesitated, but accidentally fired the RPG anyway. To Carly's shock, Arcee blocked the shot, and the display moved Skywarp enough that he rebuilt Wheeljack's legs. Prime tried to explain to Carly how this showed help could come from unlikely places, but Carly wouldn't let herself be preached to, and left in a huff. A still-damaged Arcee checked on Carly again, and she told her that while Prime sought peace, he was no stranger to loss.
When Optimus assembled a party to investigate Decepticon activity, Carly offered to join in, but Optimus refused. Arcee then offered to resolve the situation by taking Carly on as her Iron Apprentice. Carly expressed interest, and the two of them stayed behind to guard the Ark with Wheeljack. Transformers #8 Arcee wound up taking Carly with her as she and Wheeljack set out for Farmingham Dam to try and repair the turbine to try and bring more Autobots online. On the ride there, Arcee's simile for fighting alongside an ally wound up confusing Carly. Shortly after, the two Autobots were met with a roadblock set up by the Farmingham militia. Carly stepped out to try and vouch for the Autobots, assuring her fellow humans that they were the good guys. Transformers #9 Bringing the militia to the dam, they were interrupted by Optimus Prime, who had returned with Elita One and the emaciated form of Arcee's former mentor, Ultra Magnus. Cliffjumper and Jazz, however, were absent, having been captured by the Decepticons. Transformers #10
As Carly and Arcee watched over Magnus's repairs, Carly watched as Arcee had a falling-out with Elita over Arcee's decision to leave Cybertron with Optimus and the Ark. Carly was aghast to realize that Cliffjumper was in all probability being tortured by the Decepticons' new co-leader, Shockwave. As the Autobots prepared to rescue Jazz and Cliffjumper and stop the Decepticons' new Space Bridge project, Carly was unnerved when Arcee expressed hatred at the Decepticons for Ultra Magnus's ordeal. Carly – wishing to be a part of Cliffjumper's rescue – then tried to make a case for bringing her along with the raid, but Prime and Arcee both said no, and Carly was left behind. Transformers #11
Watching the battle from the Ark, Carly was dismayed to see Devastator form again and Cliffjumper being dragged out as a hostage by Soundwave. Fearing for Cliffjumper, she jumped into her van and charged through the portal the Autobots had opened into the Decepticon base. No sooner had she arrived on the scene than she rammed the van into Soundwave, forcing him to drop Cliffjumper. Carly was about to apologize to Cliffjumper for not being there for him sooner when Devastator stepped on the rear of her van. No sooner had Cliffjumper extracted Carly out of the mangled van and thrown her clear than the combiner stomped down on Cliffjumper and kicked him through the Space Bridge portal leading back to Cybertron. As Carly feared for her friend, Optimus ran through the portal after Cliffjumper, but the Space Bridge would be destroyed and Prime would return empty-handed. Transformers #12
Later, Carly joined Spike, Arcee, and newcomer Beachcomber in searching for the AWOL Ultra Magnus. Transformers #15 The search party soon picked up an energon signature and proceeded towards it. Transformers #16 Soon, as they used Beachcomber's surfboard to make their way toward the San Juan Islands, an explosion knocked the four overboard as a paranoid Ultra Magnus fired on them. Thankfully, Arcee was able to pull Carly and Spike out of the water and persuade Magnus to hold his fire. Transformers #17

Toys
Masterpiece
Making her toy debut as a small, slightly articulated figure that is scaled to be able to fit in Prime's cab mode, Carly is about two inches tall and has ball-jointed articulation at the head, arms, hips, and torso, as well as swing-jointed knees. In a reference to the classic Diaclone pilot figures, she also has tiny magnets in the soles of her feet, allowing her to stand on several magnetized panels scattered around Prime's Combat Deck. She can also pilot Roller or the Auto-Launcher mounted on the deck. However, like her other human friends packaged with Prime, the tiny size of her ball joints makes them rather weak, and she is prone to falling apart when her limbs are moved.
