Great. Thanks. Yeah, Chicago doesn't suffer enough during the winter.
Date July 25, 2003
City Rosemont, IL
Venue Hyatt Regency O'Hare

The Official Transformers Collectors Convention 2003 (commonly shortened to OTFCC 2003) was held on July 25 to July 27, 2003, in Rosemont, Illinois, just outside of Chicago.

This convention was the first run after the somewhat acrimonious departure of Jon and Karl Hartman from 3H. As they owned the BotCon name, the convention was given a new and unwieldy name, whose acronym provided endless entertainment for the fandom.

Better hustle to get one! We'll never get another Sunstreaker toy!

Sunstreaker was available only in limited quantities to those who booked a room in advance at the convention hotel.

For all of these toys, the clear plastic used for the "window" on their packaging was much softer than that on any official Transformer toy packaging before or since, feeling more like cellophane than shelf-ready protective plastic.

Heroes of Cybertron

Sunstorm was available as a free incentive for preregistering for OTFCC 2004.

These collectible plates caused endless, endless sorrow.

  • Each dinner attendee was randomly given one of two collectible War Within-themed plates with art by Don Figueroa... or would have, if they had not been massively delayed; as it was, they were eventually sent through the mail. Each attendee was also given the option to purchase the plate they needed for a "full set" for an additional $50.

Fiction

  • As the first issue of the Universe comic was delayed, a preview consisting of the first few pages was inserted into the program guide.

  • 8:00am: Doors open to the public. Two different video rooms run non-stop Transformer episodes 24 hours a day, one for Generation 1, one for Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, and Armada. The Hasbro display case features the first waves of the upcoming Energon toyline, as well as the first Alternators toy, Smokescreen, all of which would hit stores the following December.
  • 11:00am: MSTF: The Musical
  • 1:30pm: Hasbro Panel, featuring first-look clips of stock transformation footage from the upcoming Energon cartoon, with a fill-in soundtrack by Evanescence.
