DVD Releases for August 11th, 2009 - Part I
August 11th, 2009
It was a hard slog to get through the spotlight reviews this week. I live in Abbotsford, and this was the weekend of the Abbotsford Air Show and the constant stream of jets flying overhead made it nearly impossible to watch movies at times. (Do you know how loud you have to be to drown out Cutthroat Island?) As for this week's list of home market releases, there are a number that are worth picking up, but none that are must haves, and none rise to the level of DVD Pick of the Week. However, while there are no DVD Picks of the Week, there are enough reviews that the list had to be split into two with the second part found here.

Contest - Alien Invasion
July 24th, 2009
The Box Office Prediction Contest this week features two Alien Invasion movies, Aliens in the Attic and Alien Trespass. The first is this week's target film, while the second is part of the prize pack. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Aliens in the Attic.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Alien Trespass on DVD, as well as Jim Breuer - Clear the Air on DVD.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of Alien Trespass on DVD.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

Summer's Hot on the Per Theater Chart
July 21st, 2009
(500) Days of Summer led the way on the per theater chart with an outstanding average of $30,907, which was nearly twice as much as the second placed film.
That honor went to the overall box office champion film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which earned an average of $17,997.
Alien Trespass skyrocketed into third place with $14,405 in one theater thanks to special screenings at the Fantasia Montreal Film Festival.
The final film to reach the $10,000 mark was A Woman in Berlin with $12,439, also in one theater.

Furious Weekend on the Per Theater Chart
April 7th, 2009
The overall box office leader, Fast and Furious, was also the leader on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $20,500 during its opening weekend. Enlighten Up! returned to the chart in second place with $16,161 in second place. Valentino: The Last Emperor doubled its theater count, again, but remained strong with an average of $14,196 in four theaters. Strong buzz helped Gigantic earn $10,294 in its lone theater. Tulpan failed to reach $10,000 over the weekend with an opening of $8,620 in one theater; however, adding in Wednesday and Thursday and it made $10,357.

Movie Website Reviews for the Weekend of April 3rd, 2009
April 4th, 2009
This was a better than average week in terms of websites with only one movie not having a site, and only one site being below average. At the top, Adventureland's Official Site had all the usual feature, plus lots of extras, and did the best job of selling me on the movie.

Invading Limited Release
April 3rd, 2009
An eccletic bunch of limited releases this week including a Sci-Fi spoof, a Christian thriller, a baseball drama, and even Alia Shawkat's second prom movie in as as many years. There are only a couple movies on this list that have a shot at significant expansion, but a few others could do well on the home market.
