Contest: Back to School
September 7th, 2012
With kids back to school, it seems like good time to hand out some Blu-rays dealing with a school you don't want to go to. (I'm not sure what would be worse, an alien invasion or a relationship drama that results in several deaths.) As far as the target film goes, there are two real choices: Resident Evil: Retribution and Finding Nemo 3D. Nemo will most certainly be the bigger hit overall, but Retribution could win the weekend. I think Finding Nemo is the safer choice for the weekend and it is the target film in this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Finding Nemo 3D.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of The Faculty on Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of O (Othello) on Blu-ray.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for July 24th, 2012
July 23rd, 2012
I'm getting tired of saying this, but it is a slow week on the home market. There is one prime release, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season One on Blu-ray, which is currently leading this week's new releases, according to Amazon.com. The second best selling new release is Masterpiece Mystery: Inspector Lewis Series 5 on DVD. It's a good show, but it is a British Import and these rarely make an impact on the chart. Third best selling new release? Game of Thrones. This is the third or fourth time the first season of this TV show has been "released" on the home market. I don't know why they are doing this, but it is getting annoying. There are not a lot of contenders for Pick of the Week either. Jiro Dreams of Sushi on Blu-ray and Star Trek: The Next Generation are the two leading contenders. While ST:TNG became an amazing series, it started out weak, so Jiro Dreams of Sushi is the better choice, but both are easily worth picking up.

Featured Blu-ray Review: The Faculty
July 22nd, 2012
And I'm done. With The Faculty, I've seen every single feature-length film Robert Rodriguez has made and I've reviewed nine of them. This is the first film of his to not earn overall positive reviews (not counting Four Rooms, in which he only directed on a segment). Is this a warning sign for all but his more intense fans to stay away? Or is it better than 51% positive?
