Novelist Anand has been selected for this year’s Vallathol Award instituted by the Vallathol Sahitya Samithi. The award comprising a cash prize of Rs.1,11,111 and statuette will be given away at a function to be held here on October 16, the birth anniversary of Vallathol Narayana Menon.
The judging committee selected Anand for the award for his vision and intellect. Through his works including Aalkkoottam , Marana Certificate, and Marubhumikal Undakunnathu , regarded as classics in Malayalam, Anand displayed his acute observation of history and mankind and succeeded in reinventing the aesthetics of Malayali readers, the committee observed. — Special Correspondent
