Jean Nicholson was born on 22 September 1713. She was the daughter of James Nicholson and Anne Allan.1 She married Thomas Lyon, 8th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope, on 20 July 1736 at Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, EnglandG.1 She died on 22 April 1778 at age 64 at Hetton-le-Hole, County Durham, EnglandG.1 She was buried on 26 April 1778.
     From 20 July 1736, her married name became Lyon. After her marriage, Jean Nicholson was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 20 July 1736.

John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was born on 8 May 1663 at Castle Lyon, ScotlandG.1 He was the son of Patrick Lyon, 3rd Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Helen Middleton.1 A contract for the marriage of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope was signed on 21 September 1691.1 He died on 10 May 1712 at age 49.1
     He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1695.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 15 May 1695.1 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 15 May 1695.1 He succeeded as the 12th Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 15 May 1695.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Forfarshire in 1696.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in February 1702/3.1 In 1708 he avoided imprisonment for suspected complicity in the abortive French invasion of Scotland by obtaining a medical certificate testifying to his infirmity.1

John Lyon, 5th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was baptised on 27 April 1696.1 He was the son of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope.1 He died on 13 November 1715 at age 19 at Sheriffmuir, ScotlandG, killed in action, unmarried.1
     He succeeded as the 5th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 10 May 1712.2 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 10 May 1712.1 He succeeded as the 13th Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 10 May 1712.2 He fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir on 13 November 1715.1

Charles Lyon, 6th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was baptised on 12 July 1699.1 He was the son of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope.1 He married Lady Susan Cochrane, daughter of John Campbell Cochrane, 4th Earl of Dundonald and Lady Anne Murray, on 25 July 1725 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He died on 11 May 1728 at age 28, from an accidental wound recevied in a street brawl two days earlier.1
     He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 13 November 1715.1 He succeeded as the 13th Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 13 November 1715.2 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 13 November 1715.2 He was educated at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1

Lady Susan Cochrane was the daughter of John Campbell Cochrane, 4th Earl of Dundonald and Lady Anne Murray.1 She married, firstly, Charles Lyon, 6th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope, on 25 July 1725 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 She married, secondly, George Forbes on 2 April 1745.1 She died on 23 June 1754.1
     After her marriage, Lady Susan Cochrane was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 25 July 1725. From 25 July 1725, her married name became Lyon. Her married name became Forbes.
