License Plates of Johnston Atoll
Johnston Atoll has never had any indigenous inhabitants. During the late
part of the 20th century, there were on average 300 American military personnel
and 1,000 civilian contractors present. The few vehicles on Johnston Atoll
had either a U.S. Government plate or the plate(s) of the vehicle's original
place of registration, mostly Hawai'i.
Since 2007, there is no permanent population on the island and neighboring atolls which are now off-limits.
Therefore, all plates pictured here were never used on the island and should, therefore, be considered fakes or souvenirs.
