Grunty the Murloc Marine is a murloc companion. This baby murloc wears Terran Marine armor and wields a gauss rifle, which he'll occasionally fire around at perceived enemies.[1]

This pet was given out as a code to those who visited the Blizzard booth at the gamescom 2009 event and the BlizzCon 2009 event whether in-person at the event, as purchasers of the DirecTV pay-per-view,[1] or as purchasers of the internet streamed video.[2]

The pet was delivered by in-game mail to every character on a player's Battle.net account that has been attached to a Grunty code, much like Collector's Edition companions. If you merged your World of Warcraft account with your Battle.net account after purchasing the stream, you will not get the pet.

  • Grunty was a hero in early versions of Heroes of the Storm (then known as Blizzard DOTA). His description read: "Grunty was sucked into a magic vortex and whipped across the dimensions when he battled a 25-man raid one Tuesday night. Deposited in the Koprulu sector, Grunty often finds himself among the zerg as murlocs are the only creatures the zerg have ever refused to infest."[3]
  • In Heroes of the Storm, Murky has a skin named "Grunty Murky."

Notes and trivia[]

  • If Grunty gets near a Zergling or Zeradar companion, he'll either kill them or be killed by them.
  • The pet battle abilities Gauss Rifle and Stimpack are only available to Grunty. U-238 Rounds was originally only available to Grunty as well, but a few other pets with this ability have since been added.
  • He can assist the player in Failoc-alypse by dropping nuclear bombs.[4]
