Garrison followers
The following is a list of followers possible in the commander's garrison.
Several followers are characters the heroes have met throughout Warcraft's history, while some were created as references to real people in the Warcraft community. The followers' interface only shows followers the player can recruit on Draenor through meeting, quests, or achievements, however, hundreds of followers exist and can be recruited randomly through the tavern every week.
Quality, experience and item level[]
Level | XP |
---|---|
91 | 400 |
92 | 800 |
93 | 1,200 |
94 | 1,600 |
95 | 2,000 |
96 | 3,000 |
97 | 3,500 |
98 | 4,000 |
99 | 5,400 |
100 | 6,000 |
Rare | 60,000 |
Epic | 120,000 |
Followers are hired anywhere from level 90 to 100 and come in three quality levels: uncommon, rare, and epic. Experience is gained by running missions, and a set amount of XP is required to gain levels, as seen in the table to the right. Follower quality affects the number and quantity of active abilities and passive traits followers have. Uncommon followers have one ability and one trait, rare followers have one ability and two traits, and epic followers have two abilities and three traits.
When hired, followers have a slim chance of being upgraded from their nominal quality (much like quest rewards), but even if they don't proc the bonus, they can still gain quality points once they reach level 100. It takes 60,000 XP to upgrade from uncommon to rare quality, and 120,000 XP to upgrade from rare to epic quality.
At level 100, the follower UI shows the average equipped item level of followers, which starts at 600 and can be increased up to the cap of 655 (in Patch 6.1: 670). Followers can have their armor sets and weapons upgraded with special follower-only tokens, which can be as specific mission rewards, found in salvage at the Salvage Yard, or from work orders at the Dwarven Bunker (for Alliance) or War Mill (for Horde). Having those two buildings constructed is the best way to quickly increase follower item levels. See [Armor Enhancement Token] and
[Weapon Enhancement Token] for a full list of follower upgrade items. In Patch 6.1, salvage crates will no longer drop follower armor and weapons (615/630/645), but will still drop armor and weapon upgrade tokens (+3/6/9).
In order to gain full experience and be effective, followers should be sent on missions that are designed for their level (or item level) or lower, as their abilities and traits will lose effectiveness and they will gain substantially less experience if they are sent on missions above their level. Once two level 100 followers reach item level thresholds (specifically: 615, 630, 645, and 660), higher item-level follower missions are unlocked. These work just like higher follower level missions, in that followers need to have the required item level to be fully effective. The table below breaks down the requirements:
Level | Item level | XP | Effective | Other notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
≥ +1 | ≥ +1 | 100% | Yes | Mission success > 100% = bonus XP |
0 | 0 | 100% | Yes | |
-1 – -2 | -1 – -14 | 50% | Partially | Abilities/traits worth less success chance |
≤ -3 | ≤ -15 | 10% | No |
Abilities and traits[]
Abilities[]
Abilities are restricted by class. Each ability counters one of 9 possible threats. Followers can use each ability once per mission (for example, a follower with Recklessness and Taunt could counter one Timed Battle threat and one Wild Aggression threat on the same mission, but if a mission had two separate Timed Battle threats, countering both of them would require two separate followers with appropriate counters).
Traits[]
Traits provide various benefits, such as increased mission success chance in certain circumstances or increased mission rewards.
Some followers have special traits that must be recruited for certain jobs, such as the Bodyguard trait which allows a follower to accompany heroes throughout Draenor. Phylarch the Evergreen is an example of a follower that is unique in having the only Evergreen trait, which allows him to work in the lumber mill.
Increased success chance traits[]
Duplicate traits from multiple followers stack with each other.
a: Trait is granted by a book ( [Guide to Arakkoa Relations],
[Grease Monkey Guide],
[Ogre Buddy Handbook],
[Winning with Wildlings])
b: Trait is exclusive to a single follower (Blook, Garona Halforcen, Harrison Jones, Oronok Torn-heart, Pallas)
Increased rewards traits[]
Special traits[]
Profession traits[]
Some followers are guaranteed traits that make them suitable for employment in specific garrison buildings (after the building is upgraded to level 2). Other followers can randomly acquire these traits (except for Bodyguard, Angler and Evergreen, which are special).
