Tropical Depression - August 28-31, 1962
A tropical depression formed in the western Gulf of Mexico in late
August. The depression rounded
the west side of the subtropical ridge, moving northward into the upper
Texas coast. Heavy rainfall
was confined to the east of the center due to upper level southwesterly
winds to the east of a northeast-
moving upper level low to its north. Its rainfall shield
stretched northward across Arkansas and into
southeast Missouri after the depression's surface low pressure area
dissipated. The graphics below
show
the storm total rainfall from the tropical depression. Rainfall
data was provided by the National Climatic
Data Center in Asheville, North
Carolina.
