Activated 5.60 in Pervomaisk, Nikolayev Oblast, as the 29th Missile Brigade.

Organisation 1961:

30.5.61 renamed the 46th Missile Division. Honors and awards from the 93th Motorised Rifle Division.

From 14.6.62 the 309th Missile Regiment was attached to the division.

In 1967 it is decided to rearm the division with the UR-100, and the first silo construction takes place in 1968 in the Pervomaisk region [US designation: Pervomaysk ICBM complex - Type IIID silos]. Initially 60 silos, but by 1970 it has been decided to expand the divison to 90 silos.

434th Missile Regiment became independent in 1972, directly attached to the 43rd Missile Army.

Organisation 1972 (60 UR-100 silos in 6 launch groups):

Three more regiments became operational in 1973/1974 with the UR-100U (SS-11 Mod.4).

The division converted to the new UR-100N (SS-19) 1973-1975, with the first regiment becoming operational 5.11.73.

21.1.78 awarded the order of the October Revolution.

Organisation 1979 (90 UR-100N silos in 9 launch groups):

The division converted to the UR-100NU (SS-19 Mod.3) 1979-1983, with the first regiment becoming operational 6.11.79.

The division began conversion to the RT-23UTTKh (SS-24) in 1988, with the first regiment operational 19.8.88.
