Brenda S. Spears was a judge for the New York City Housing Court of New York County, New York. She joined the court in May of 1996. She was reappointed in 2001, 2006 and 2011.[1][2][3]

Education

Spears received her undergraduate degree from City College of New York and her J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.[1]

Career

Spears began her career in 1975 as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In 1977, she joined the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where she practiced until 1981. She then worked as General Counsel and 1st Deputy Commissioner of the New York Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 to 1987, she served in the New York Attorney General's Office as the Deputy Chief of the Real Estate Finance Bureau and Section Chief of the Litigation Bureau. She then joined the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), where she served as Deputy General Counsel and as a Corporate Secretary until her appointment to the Housing Court in 1996.[2]
