Christopher J. Burns was a judge for the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District in Erie County, New York. He was elected to this position in 1996, was re-elected in 2009, and retired from the court in 2021.
Education
Burns received his B.A. degree from Canisius College in 1974 and his J.D. degree from the University at Buffalo Law School in 1979.[1]
Career
Burns began his career in 1979 as an Assistant Erie County District Attorney. He then worked as a private practice attorney from 1984 to 1995. From 1989 to 1995, he also served as faculty of the New York Local Court Justice Training. He was an adjunct faculty member at Medaille College from 1997 to 1999.
Burns began his judicial career in 1984 when he was elected a Tonawanda Town Court Justice. He was then elected to the Supreme Court in 1996. From 2000 to 2003, he also served as an associate justice on the Appellate Division, 4th Department.[1]
