Douglas Kossler

Douglas Kossler was a judge on the Alaska Court of Appeals. He was appointed by Governor Sean Parnell (R) on August 2, 2013, to succeed Joel Bolger, who was elevated to the Alaska Supreme Court.^[1][2] He would have had to stand for retention by voters in 2016 in order to remain on the bench past the end of his appointment term in February 2017; however, he did not file to do so.^[3]

Education

Kossler received his undergraduate degree in business administration from the College of William & Mary in 1989 and his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1994.^[4]

Career

After law school, Kossler clerked for Alaska Court of Appeals Chief Judge Alexander O. Bryner. He later served as an assistant public defender, handling family cases in Anchorage and Bethel. In 1997, Kossler joined the Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals as an assistant attorney general before his promotion to appellate unit supervisor in 2001. He was solicitor general for criminal affairs from 2011 to 2013.^[4]
