Elaine E. Bucklo is an Article III Federal Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She joined the Court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Bucklo assumed senior status on October 31, 2009.

Early life and education

Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Bucklo graduated from Saint Louis University in Missouri with her bachelor's degree in 1966 and received a J.D. degree from Northwestern University Law School in 1972.[1]

Professional career

Bucklo was a law clerk for former Federal Appeals Judge Robert Sprecher from 1972 to 1973 in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Bucklo was a private practice attorney in Chicago, Illinois from 1973 to 1978 and again from 1980 to 1985. Bucklo taught as a visiting professor for the University of California-Davis Law School from 1978 to 1980.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Illinois

Bucklo served as a Federal Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois from 1985 to 1994.[1]

On the recommendation of former U.S. Senator Carol Mosley Braun, Bucklo was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by President Bill Clinton on August 16, 1994, to a seat vacated by John A. Nordberg. Bucklo was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 1994, and received commission on October 11, 1994.[2] Bucklo assumed senior status on October 31, 2009.[1] Bucklo was succeeded in this position by Edmond E. Chang.
