Education
Ellen M. Coin is an acting justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. She was appointed to this position in 2009. She has also served on the New York City Criminal Court of New York County since 2003.[1]
Education
Coin received her B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969 and her J.D. degree from the New York University School of Law in 1972.[1]
Career
Coin began her career in 1972 as an Assistant Kings County District Attorney. In 1977, she left this position to serve for three years as a Special Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice's Organized Crime Strike Force in the Eastern District of New York. She became a private practice lawyer in 1980, working for the firm of Shapiro & Schwartz as an associate (1980-1987) and then partner (1987-1989). She then practiced as a partner with Graubard, Mollen & Miller from 1989 until her judicial appointment in 1998. That year, she was appointed an interim judge of the New York City Criminal Court. In 2003, she was appointed to a 10-year term as judge of this court. Since 2009, she has served on the Supreme Court.[1]
