Freda L. Wolfson was a judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. She joined the court as a federal judge in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). Wolfson was chief judge of the court from 2019 to 2023.[1]

She retired from the court on February 1, 2023. Robert Kirsch was nominated by President Joe Biden (D) to replace Wolfson on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.[2]

Early life and education

Wolfson graduated from Rutgers University with her bachelor's degree in 1976 and later graduated from Rutgers Law with her J.D. in 1979.[1]

Professional career

Wolfson spent her legal career as an attorney in private practice in the State of New Jersey.[1]

Judicial career

District of New Jersey

Wolfson was nominated by George W. Bush on August 1, 2002, to a seat vacated by Judge Nicholas Politan. She was confirmed by the Senate on November 14, 2002, and received commission on December 4, 2002.[3] Wolfson was chief judge of the court from 2019 to 2023. She retired from the court on February 1, 2023[1]

Magistrate for District of New Jersey

Wolfson began her federal judicial career as a magistrate judge for the District of New Jersey. Wolfson was appointed to an eight-year term in 1986 and was re-appointed again in 1994. She served in that capacity until becoming an Article III judge for the District of New Jersey in 2002.[1]
