Greg N. Stivers is the chief judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. On June 19, 2014, President Barack Obama nominated Stivers to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.[1] Stivers received confirmation from the United States Senate on December 4, 2014.[2] Stivers became chief judge of the court in 2018.
Before joining the court, Stivers was a partner at the law firm of Kerrick Stivers Coyle, PLC.
Education
Stivers earned his B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University in 1982 and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky School of Law in 1985.[1] He also spent a year at the University of Louisville, where he earned no degree.[3]

President Barack Obama nominated Greg N. Stivers to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The vacancy was created when Thomas Russell took senior status on November 15, 2011. The President on the nomination:
“ | I am pleased to nominate these distinguished individuals to serve on the United States District Court bench. I am confident they will serve the American people with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.[1][4] | ” |
The American Bar Association rated Stivers Unanimously Qualified for the position, with one member recusing themself from the vote.[5]
The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing for Stivers on July 29, 2014.[6] The committee reported Stivers to the full Senate on September 18, 2014, on voice vote.[7] The Senate confirmed Stivers on December 4, 2014, by a voice vote.[2] Stivers became chief judge of the court in 2018.
