Heather L. Sweetland is a Sixth Judicial District judge for St. Louis County, Minnesota. She was appointed to this position on February 2, 1996 and was elected to full six-year terms in 1998, 2004 and 2010. Her current term expires in 2017.[1]
Education
Sweetland received a B.S.T. degree from Mankato State College in 1974 and a J.D. degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1982.[1]
Career
Sweetland began her legal career in 1982 as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota. That same year, she began working as a sole practitioner. In 1986, she joined the law firm of Eckman & Fillenworth. She then worked as a partner of Fillenworth & Sweetland from 1990 until her judicial appointment in 1996. During her time in the private practice, she also, from 1982 to 1996, worked as an Assistant Public Defender in the 6th Judicial District.[1]
2010 election
Sweetland was re-elected after running unopposed.[2]
