James M. Catterson was a justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He took office in April 2004 and served through 2012.[1][2][3]

Education

Catterson was born in 1958. He received his B.A. degree from Colgate University in 1980 and his J.D. degree from the St. John's University School of Law.[1]

Career

Catterson began his legal career in 1986 working for the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of New York. In 1992, he joined the Suffolk County Attorney's Office, where he served until his election to the Supreme Court in 1998. He took office in 1999 and served in the 10th Judicial District until 2004. He was then designated to the Appellate Division.[1]

2012

Catterson ran unsuccessfully for re-election to the Supreme Court. He was one of twelve candidates running for six seats in the general election on November 6, 2012. Catterson ran on the Republican and Conservative party tickets; he received 6.82% of the vote as a Republican.[4]
