Joel C. Hoppe is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia. He assumed office on February 10, 2014.[1][2]
Biography
Education
Hoppe earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1998 and his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2002.[1]
Career
Prior to joining the court, Hoppe served as a law clerk for magistrate judges in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia after law school. He then worked as a lawyer with the Virginia Attorney General's office, and was an attorney for the law firm of Spotts Fain. In 2007, Hoppe was appointed as an assistant federal public defender for the federal public defender's office for the Western District of Virginia.[1]
