Education
John Parker was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D).[1] Parker assumed senior status on October 31, 1998, and passed away on July 14, 2014.[2]
Early life and education
A native of Louisiana, Parker graduated from Louisiana State University with his bachelor's degree in 1949 and later graduated from Louisiana State University Law School with his J.D. in 1952. After Law School, Parker served two years in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1954 to 1964.[1]
Professional career
Parker started his legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Louisiana from 1954 to 1979 and also served as a part-time assistant parish attorney for East Baton Rouge from 1956 to 1966.[1]
Judicial career
Middle District of Louisiana
Parker was nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D) on May 24, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629 which was approved by Congress. Parker was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 25, 1979, and received commission on September 26, 1979. He served as the chief judge of the court from 1979 to 1998 before later assuming senior status on October 31, 1998.[1] Parker was succeeded in this position by James J. Brady.
