Voter registration is the process that allows citizens to register with election officials in order to become eligible to vote. Forty-nine states require voters to register. (North Dakota, which is the only state that does not require voter registration, repealed its law requiring all voters to register in 1951, but it still gives municipalities the option to register voters locally).[1] Voter registration methods vary by state and can include the following: registering in person at state government agency offices, registering online, registering by mail, and registering through voter registration drives sponsored by non-government entities. This article provides links to state websites that contain information about how to register to vote.
