Marc Thomas Treadwell is a federal judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Treadwell joined the court in 2010 after an appointment by Barack Obama (D) and was confirmed by the Senate June 21, 2010. From 2020 to 2024, Treadwell served as chief judge of the court.[1]
Prior to his appointment, he was a private practice attorney and adjunct professor at Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.[2]
Early life and education
Born in Fort Campbell, KY in 1955, Treadwell earned his B.A. from Valdosta State University in 1978 and received his J.D. from Mercer University in 1981.[3]
Professional career
Treadwell worked in private practice with the law firms Chambless Higdon and Carson, LLP and Kilpatrick and Cody, representing clients in civil litigation. In 2000, he became a shareholder and partner with the firm Adams, Jordan and Treadwell, P.C., in Macon, Georgia. He specialized in personal injury and wrongful death cases. Treadwell was also an adjunct professor of law at the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.[3][4]

On February 4, 2010, President Barack Obama (D) nominated Treadwell to a seat on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.[3][5] The seat became vacant when Hugh Lawson assumed senior status.[2] Treadwell said of the nomination:
“ | I am honored and humbled the president has nominated me to follow Judge Lawson. If confirmed by the Senate, I look forward to following in Judge Lawson’s footsteps.[6][7] | ” |
Treadwell received a rating of Unanimously Well Qualified from the American Bar Association.[8]

On June 21, 2010, the Senate voted for confirmation, 89-0.[9]
Treadwell served as chief judge of the court from 2020 to 2024.[1]
