Michael D. Nelson is a federal magistrate judge on the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska. He was first appointed to this position on June 30, 2017, and his current term will expire on June 29, 2025.[1][2]
Previously, Nelson applied for a vacancy on the 4th County Court Judicial District in 2011. Governor Dave Heineman appointed Thomas K. Harmon to the seat on November 9, 2011.[3]
Professional career
Prior to his judicial service, Nelson was a trial attorney in Omaha, Nebraska. He also served as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Nebraska-Omaha's school of criminology and criminal justice. He is a recipient of the school's Rising Star Award.[2]
