Michele Morel was a judge on the 29th Judicial District Court in Louisiana. She was elected on March 24, 2012, to a term that expired on December 31, 2014. She is the daughter of Harry Morel, Jr., a district attorney who stepped down in May of 2012. She was defeated in her bid for re-election to the 29th Judicial District Court in 2014.[1][2][3][4]

Primary: She was defeated in the primary on November 4, 2014, receiving 39.1 percent of the vote. She competed against Timothy Marcel. [3][4]

2012

Morel narrowly defeated Timothy Marcel in the election on March 24, winning 50.87% of the vote.[1][5][2]

Campaign contributions

Before the election, The Times-Picayune reported that Morel had raised $154,000 and donated $30,000 to her own campaign. In comparison, Timothy Marcel raised $32,000 and received $2,900 worth of goods and services.[6]

Education

Morel earned a B.A. from Louisiana State University, going on to receive her J.D. from Loyola University - New Orleans. She was admitted to the bar in 1994.[7]

Career

Prior to her election to the court, Morel had her own practice for 18 years, concentrating on civil cases. She also served as an assistant district attorney for 16 years.[2]
