Paul Brown was a Federal Article III judge with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Brown served on senior status from 2001 to 2012. He passed away on November 26, 2012.[1][2]
Early life and education
Brown graduated from the University of Texas School of Law with his J.D. degree in 1950.
Military service
Brown served in the U.S. Navy on active duty as a Electrician's Mate from 1944 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1951.[1]
Professional career
Brown began his legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in Texas from 1951 to 1953 before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office as Assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas from 1953 to 1959 and was nominated by President President Dwight Eisenhower as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas from 1959 to 1961 before resuming private practice work from 1961 to 1985.[1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Texas
On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Brown was appointed by President Ronald Reagan on September 11, 1985 to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333 which was approved by Congress. Brown was confirmed by the Senate on October 16, 1985 on a senate vote and received commission on October 17, 1985 before later assuming senior status on April 1, 2001.[1]
