Federal judicial career
Fifth Circuit
Judge Roney was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit by Richard Nixon on October 7, 1970, to a seat vacated by George Carswell; Confirmed by the Senate on October 13, 1970, and received commission on October 16, 1970. On October 1, 1981 he was reassigned to the Eleventh Circuit.[1]
Eleventh Circuit
Roney was reassigned from the Fifth Circuit to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on October 1, 1981. He served as chief judge from 1986-1989. Assumed senior status on October 1, 1989 and served in that capacity until his death on September 16, 2006.[1]
