Acting New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District


Peter J. Benitez is an acting justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 12th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 1996. He also served on the New York City Criminal Court from 1989 to 2011.[1][2]

Education

Benitez received his B.A. degree from Columbia College in 1968 and his J.D. degree from the Columbia University School of Law in 1971.[1]

Career

Benitez began his career in 1971 as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County. In 1986, he became the First Deputy Commissioner for the NYC Department of Investigation. He then worked as the NYC Criminal Justice Coordinator in 1988 and 1989.

Benitez began his judicial career in 1989 when he was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court. He was reappointed to this court in 1996 and 2002. Since 1996, he has served as an Acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
