Wayne N. Walters is the superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools. Hamlet was appointed interim superintendent on September 29, 2021, and took on the role on October 1, 2021. He was appointed full superintendent on July 21, 2022. Walters' previous career experience includes more than 30 years of experience with Pittsburgh Public Schools including as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent of 6-12 Schools, and Assistant Superintendent of Professional Development and Special Programming.[1]

Past superintendents

  • Anthony Hamlet was the superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools. Hamlet was appointed superintendent on July 1, 2016 and resigned effective October 1, 2021. Hamlet's previous career experience included working as a case manager and behavioral specialist, principal, and district administrator.[2][3]
  • Linda S. Lane was the superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools from 2010 to 2016. Lane's previous career experience included working as an elementary school teacher in the Iowa City Community School District and as the executive director of human resources and chief operating officer of Des Moines Public Schools.[4]

Members of the Pittsburgh School District school board are elected to four-year terms. Four or five seats are up for election on a staggered basis every odd-numbered year in November.[5][6]

Five seats on the board are up for general election on November 4, 2025. A primary is scheduled for May 20, 2025. The primary filing deadline for this election was March 11, 2025 and the general filing deadline is August 1, 2025
