Richard G. Andrews is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. He joined the court in 2011 after a nomination from Barack Obama. Prior to nomination, he was a state prosecutor for Delaware.[1] Andrews assumed senior status on December 31, 2023.[2]

Early life and education

Born in Manchester, England, Andrews received a bachelor's from Haverford College in 1977 and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 1981.[3]

On May 11, 2011, Obama nominated Andrews to the United States District Court for the District of Delaware to a seat vacated by Joseph Farnan.[5] Obama told the press, "These individuals have demonstrated the talent, expertise, and fair-mindedness Americans expect and deserve from their judicial system. I am grateful for their willingness to serve and confident that they will apply the law with the utmost impartiality and integrity."[3] Andrews assumed senior status on December 31, 2023.[6]

Andrews is rated "Well Qualified" by the substantial majority of the American Bar Association and "Qualified" by the minority.[7] He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 13, 2011 and you can find his Committee Questionnaire available here and his Committee 'Questions for the Record' Available Here.

On September 8, 2011, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Andrews' nomination with a voice vote.[8]

Andrews was confirmed by a Senate vote of 96-0 on November 3, 2011.[9]
